Areas of Learning

Here you can know more about Hi-5 preschool

Social Emotional

Children will be provided with experiences and support which will help them to develop self-regulation; a positive sense of themselves and of others, as well as a positive disposition to learn. Teachers will support the development of children’s emotional well-being to help them to know themselves—what they can do to understand the benefits and joy of friendships and relationships.

World Knowledge

Children will build knowledge, skills and understanding that help them to make sense of and contribute to their world. Their learning will be supported through opportunities for them to use a range of tools and materials safely; encounter creatures, plants and objects in their natural environments and in real-life situations; undertake practical experiments and work with a range of materials.

Children will be supported in developing their understanding of mathematics through problem solving, reasoning and numeracy; they will learn to explore, enjoy, learn, practise and talk about their understanding with confidence and competence.

Creative Development through the Arts involves children responding to and making meaning of their experiences through the Multiple Intelligences. It is about how children respond, explore, and develop in their imagination through stories, role-plays, imaginative play, dance, music, design, art and technology.

Children’s learning and competence in communicating, speaking, listening, reading and writing will be supported, facilitated and extended to prepare them for their primary school years. Children will be provided with opportunity and encouragement to use communication in a range of situations and for a range of purposes; they will be encouraged to develop the enthusiasm to experiment and extend their range of communication skills.

Physical Development

The physical development of children will be encouraged through the provision of opportunities for them to be active and to improve their skills of coordination, control, manipulation and movement. Children will be supported in using all of their senses to learn about themselves and the space around them. They will be supported in developing an understanding of the importance of physical activity, games, exercise and making healthy choices in relation to food.
